Have you been searching for the best ever solution for makeup storage? For years, and I mean years I have been wanting to build a makeup tower to store all of my beauty products.
I’ve always drooled over organized makeup vanities, I actually still do. In our previous home we had a huge bathroom with plenty of storage, but I didn’t like to the flow of the cabinets and I felt like my stuff was scattered.
I can’t tell you how many products I have lost or purchased doubles because my space wasn’t organized and scattered all over the bathroom.
Now that we have moved into a new space with a super tiny bathroom I’m seriously hurting for space.
But to be honest with you, I’m pretty excited because now I can get creative and find my dream makeup tower!
The best part, is I figured out how and I can’t wait to share it with you! Here is the best ever solution for makeup storage!
IKEA PAX Wardrobe
Like I mentioned earlier we have been in the process of moving and we’re having to adjust to a smaller space. My husband and I now share a closet where as before I had my own closet space.
I wanted to make the most of our closet space so I came across the IKEA Pax wardrobe option. I love how sleek this system looks and you can truly get a custom closet that looks super expensive but is a fraction of the price.
Then it hit me, why not add space for my beauty products at the same time!
Why The IKEA PAX
When I mentioned this to my husband, he asked me “do you really have that much shit?” Of course I do, wtf am I supposed to sacrifice my little ladies for a smaller space? Not an OPTION Boo sorry!
I decided to go IKEA PAX for a few reasons.
- Price: for the price to build the makeup portion of my beauty tower is cheaper than what I was going to do, the slay station.
- Space: We don’t have a ton of space in the new house. I decided to take advantage of the using height rather than width (if that makes sense)
- Customizable: When building you will have so many options you literally will get overwhelmed.
How To Build Your Pax Makeup Station
This can be a little overwhelming, well it was for me. I would recommend actually I will beg you to get some inspiration from Pinterest so you have a base idea of what you would like to do.
Then take into consideration what you’re going to be storing. Try to get it down as much as possible to avoid having to reorder things from IKEA and avoiding multiple trips or shipping charges.
Once you have an idea, head over to the IKEA website on your laptop the feature I want to share is not going to work on your cell phone.
Once you get to the IKEA website you’ll see this
Click on the IKEA Planning Tools on the top of the screen and it will take you to this screen
Scroll down to the Storage Planners and click on the PAX Planner! Be sure to have Adobe installed and updated or the planner won’t work. I ran into that and I was pissed, it felt like it took forever!
Now, the fun begins! I’ll walk you through how to build the best ever solution for makeup storage and you can pick your own customizations!
Building the IKEA PAX
Now that we’re ready to start bringing this bad boy to life, make sure you have the measurements of the space where you’re going to put your new makeup station.
It’s recommended to have at least 1.6″ of space between the top of your makeup station and the ceiling. IKEA mentions to also secure to your frame to the wall.
Choosing Your Frame
The frames come in 3 different widths
- 19 5/8″
- 29 1/2″
- 39 3/8″
2 Different Heights: Pay close attention to these when selecting your frame this will make a difference.
- 79 1/8″
- 92 7/8″
2 Different Depths: When choosing a depth think about what you’re storing. The more depth you have the more room you will have to store things, but the more room it will take up.
- 13 3/4″
- 22 7/8″
There is also a color selection to choose from!
- Brown Stained Veneer
- Black Brown
After you’ve made your selection, drag your frame to the closet area shown. now we can customize the Frame.
Adding Accessories to your PAX
Moving on adding the accessories for your pax! This is where things become overwhelming, I will do my best to keep it organized for you.
Click on Add Product and select Interior Organizers.
**I recommend setting up your filters before you begin. Select the width, height, depth and color of the frame you choose earlier. This will help make the selection process much easier because it will only display the items that fit the frame you selected.
I started with choosing the shelves and you will have 3 options if you’re trying to keep the cost down you’ll want the regular shelf. If you’re looking for more functional the pull out tray is going to be your best friend. The glass shelf can be used to display cute items you don’t use often.
- KOMPLEMENT Shelf – $5.00
- KOMPLEMENT Pull out Tray- $15.00
- KOMPLEMENT Glass Shelf- $20.00
I wanted my tower to be fully functional and easy for me to clean up after using. I like the pull out trays because I can keep my everyday makeup in one section and get to them quicker.
Now that you have your shelving picked out, you can focus on the drawer options. There are 4 drawer options your can choose from depending on your preference and budget.
- KOMPLEMENT DRAWER- $20.00
- KOMPLEMENT WITH FRAMED FRONT-$20.00
- KOMPLEMENT WITH FRAMED GLASS FRONT-$40.00
- KOMPLEMENT WITH GLASS FRONT- $40.00
I love all the options and this was hard for me to pick one. I originally fell in love with the glass front drawers, but decided against it because I was going to be storing my hair dryers in the drawer and I wasn’t down for fingerprint cleaning every weekend.
With the drawers without the glass you can add a cute handle to give it more personality, and that was the route I decided on.
It seems like a lot when you have to plan this on the internet and not in person. hopefully this was helpful with building your makeup tower. Not every need is going to be the same which is what makes this option so unique and eye catching.
You have the option to add doors, handles, mirrors and that is why this is the best ever solution for makeup storage
Now that I have built my IKEA PAX wardrobe for my makeup I can’t wait to show you guys the final product.
Until the wardrobe arrives, share your favorite makeup storage ideas!
