I have a confession. Its not dark girl, so we’re good : )
I have become addicted to wigs! When I tell you addicted I mean I have started wearing wigs and jumping down the wig hole on Amazon.
If you haven’t heard already, Amazon sells wigs. I mean for real, what the hell doesn’t Amazon sell? I have purchased over 5 wigs on Amazon and i can say I’m impressed.
Why I started getting into Wigs
I know I’m a heavy promoter for clip in hair extensions, I still reach for those often, but there was always that piece of me that wanted to have bomb looking hair from top to bottom without having to stress.
The answer- WIGS
Wigs can be a great option for those that have damaged hair that are looking to give their hair a break. A lot of women are turning to wigs to prevent damaged hair.
If you’re looking for quick hair mask with ingredients you already have, check out this post!
I will be honest, wigs are not a quick put on and run out the door solution right away, there is a lot of prep work. It does take me a little bit of time, but that’s because this is new to me. I will share how I apply my wigs in another post, we will be here all night!
So here are some things I’ve learned being new to the wig game and all that I wanted to share with you.
What are the different types of wigs?
Wigs have come a very long way and like everything else in the beauty world there are different types of wigs, here’s what you need to know!
- Full Lace wigs are come with different specifications. They are lace units that have urethane strips for adhesives to stick to. Full lace wigs can be parted anywhere, pulled up into high ponytails and other updos, and last longer than their front lace counterparts.
- Lace front wigs are exactly what that. They have the lace only in the front of the unit, and the rest of the unit is a thicker cap. The cap may have clips sewn to it, which helps hold the wig securely to your head. Some people prefer not to use these clips, me personally love the extra security from the clips so I like to have these.
So lets talk Full lace vs Lace front, this is where I struggled and this helped me better understand. Full lace wigs have a base that is made fully of lace unlike the lace front wig.
So what does this mean?
Full lace wigs can be more versatile than a lace front wig, because they can be worn in different hair styles. This puts full lace wigs at a higher price point than a lace front wig as well.
Check out this chart I found below that was helpful for me to decide which type of wig to go with.
Where I purchased my Wigs
After looking into human hair vs synthetic I decided to go with synthetic. for my first wig purchase. This was perfect for me because I didn’t break the bank to try something new to me.
Here is the exact one I went with and it was highly rated on Amazon, you can see it here.
After this beauty I knew I wanted to get a more realistic color to wear daily. That’s when i went with a real human hair wig. I wanted something with more body so I decided to go with this wig. This was also a Amazon purchase, and I loved it! I actually straightened it one day and fell in love with it.
So do you want a Synthetic Or a Human hair wig?
This is personal preference but here are some of the differences between the two. So far I have tried both synthetic and human hair wigs, I like them both to be honest. Since I dont wear wigs daily for a long period of time I tend to lean more towards synthetic.
This hair is generally less expensive than real human hair. It can be made up of many different hairs and is said not to last long. You have to be more cautious when it comes to using hot styling tools when wearing a synthetic wig, unless you get a ‘heat safe’ version.
Another thing i noticed is my synthetic wigs tangled easily, and this was annoying to say the least. It is said that you should aim for a short to mid-length hair if you’re going synthetic to help with the tangling.
Either way, you need to treat synthetic hair differently than you would treat real human hair.
Synthetic Hair May Be for You if:
You don’t want to spend a lot money
You don’t want to fully style your hair while wearing the wig
You want to use your wig only for the short Term
These wigs are more expensive than synthetic wigs. The quality will be much higher, it will last much longer and you can style it with heat tools. Keep in mind, the higher quality the hair, the more you will be paying for your wig.
Human Hair May Be for You if:
You prefer a higher quality texture of hair
You want to be able to change your style
You want to keep a wig for longer than a year
You would like shoulder length or longer hair
Wearing wigs can be a fun way to experiment with different looks. Don’t let the old memories you have of your grandmas wig stop you from wanting to try something new!
Have a wignificent day
